Teamwork makes the dream work!
Your team pays
attention to the details so that you can captain the larger picture. Red Bulls
F1 racer Max Verstappen can vouch for this in light of his recent victory at
the Hungarian Grand Prix! No, it’s not an error because in his own words the
end result of the race ‘Was like a victory!’ against unbelievable odds.
On the observational
laps prior to the race, with wet conditions and cold tyres and brakes, Max
crashed his car into a barrier wall on the lap. The Red Bull RB16 car appeared
to be in no shape for a race having sustained extensive damage, but his team
stepped up with just under 30 minutes to spare before the race was to be
started. The Mercedes team had told
Hamilton ‘Verstappen is out!’ What was easily 90 minutes of work of repairs was
completed in 25 minutes by the team for Max to join the race! "But the mechanics did an
amazing job to fix the car at the start. I don't know how they did it but yeah,
incredible”, said Max on coming second in the race.
Extraordinary things
happen when you and the people around you share your same commitment to the
cause. They say friends are the family you choose. Well, employees are the crew
you choose to conquer the trenches and the rule of thumb is to hire based on
‘attitude’. What about the skills they bring to the table? Every apprentice or ‘newbie’
has to gain experience somewhere and provided that your recruits are fuelled by
the hunger to succeed, mastering industry skills will be default in their
nature.
The ‘de rigueur’ is to have members who will get on board the train or
get out of its path. However, their leap of faith also needs to be acknowledged
and appraised to sustain the synergy. The willingness to cooperate and possess
a ‘no surrender’ mindset when it comes to tasks are usually innate but can also
be cultivated. As long as employees are eager to tackle challenges and learn,
they can be honed to deliver dedicated results.
In today’s workplace environments especially, the resources to empower
employees are limitless. Understand the work culture you have at your disposal
and enrich it with skillsets and information that employees can use for
personal enrichment and in course contribute to the holistic vision of the
organisation. Yes, Max Verstappen is the
name that made that usually makes the headlines but, on this day it was the
team on which the spotlight had shined brightest and everyone in the team that
day recounts it as an anecdote to accentuate their professional prowess. These
work cultures where employee variances are appraised, broadened, and enhanced
exhibit a strong sense of conviction and follow-through that generate as Max
said “incredible” results.
More often than not, we
let ourselves be consumed by the rat race to succeed. Little do we realise that
success becomes an occupational hazard for teams and business that are too busy
to look for it. So fret not if your ideas have been scoffed at because as long
as your team players want to have the last laugh, they will move mountains to
envision the goal.
